The Rockies
I haven’t posted in a month! All the more evidence that I have, indeed, been busy.
There has been some progress with my mosaic birdhouse, but aside from that the only art I’ve made is what I’ll be sharing in this post.
I’ve been to the Rockies before, and I have been in love with them since. It was great to see them again, a lot of it felt so familiar. This time I went with 15 other family members of all ages, so it was a light journey. Lots of driving. I did get to draw. I also got to take my new FujiFilm XE-4 out for a spin- what a blast!
We stayed out in a remote area near Winter Park. Because it was June, the flora was teeming with life. Tons of wildflowers and grasses. I sketched this one morning. I loved the shapes of the field pennycress so much I painted it on the next page:
Just some watercolor… I cracked open one of the leaves and it was full of tiny, green, slimy seeds.
The next day we were driving in the mountains. I spent the downtime sketching some of the majestic horizon with pencil. I love this spread. I have been enjoying what I can accomplish with pencil lately. It has been a while since I have drawn mountains with so much range- trees, snow, rock… But my methods came back to me after some trial and error.
I debated not even sharing this page, but I’m here to share all my art.
I painted this with some watercolor. I was feeling okay about it, but at the very end when I wanted to add some snowy details with my Posca, I made the mistake of trying to get the acrylic paint to run again by pressing down. Well, because of the air pressure, the paint exploded everywhere. Ruined my clothes and my painting. I was pretty upset about it lol. But here is how it turned out. Blahhh. That’s art I guess!
Aside from that, I drew at the airport. My flight was cancelled after a baggage cart driver hit the back of the plane and caused a large hole in the tail, so the journey home was long.
The other take away on this trip was taking my camera for a spin. What a joy the XE4 is; love the thing. The way it’s made makes so much sense, and adjusting each setting is so simple. I can really build the image I envision. But that’s for another post!
Thanks for reading!
Until next time.
